From the Middle Ages until the end of the Ancien Regime, this stately building was the seat of the highest official of the Chapter of Saint Servatius. The provost had the temporary (temporary appointments) management of worldly goods. Pastoral care and spiritual direction were under the jurisdiction of the dean of the chapter.
